Our Approach
While there are several youth development programs and service focused initiatives, SFC’s approach prioritizes student success and legacy.
Our organization has implemented evidence-based concepts focused on student achievement to ensure our participants thrive. We emphasize the following as key elements of our approach:
Positive Personal Beliefs
Fostering a Sense of Belonging, Growth Mindsets, Self-Efficacy, and Intrinsic Value ensures student success
Culture of Community
In spaces where every voice is valued and heard, students can thrive academically and are empowered to pursue change
Explorer Engagement Style
Students can lead meaningful initiatives by embracing curiosity and actively participating in the learning processes
Additionally, we craft an experience that stands out among comparable youth leadership programs, offering unique opportunities for growth and development. We identified the following ways our approach is different to many of the more accessible organizations:
Industry Specific
Organizations with a similar service delivery structure are often focused on other areas of expertise; for example, business or agriculture
Agency in Leadership
Nonprofits that engage youth in advocacy efforts are typically 501(c)4s. These organizations have specific political goals and strategies that are assigned to volunteers. These opportunities often prioritize politics rather than youth development.
Legacy in Projects
Programs that empower students to pursue leadership through service are typically focused on single day, repetitive charitable activities; for example: river clean-ups or fundraiser bake-sales. While those projects are important and admirable, our program encourages students to pursue projects that create continuous scalable actions.
